Our councillors

Our councillors are always local, vocal and visible. They live and work in Broxtowe and care deeply about the communities they represent so they fight for the very best outcomes for Broxtowe and its residents. Find out what that means in practice below.

Local

Local representation is incredibly important, and politicians should know the areas they represent. That’s why our Broxtowe councillors and candidates are always from the areas they represent and are passionate champions of their communities. You don’t have to be born in Broxtowe to be part of it, but elected officials do need to have a strong connection to the area you represent by living or working in the locality. We ensure that our councillors are embedded in the communities they represent, so they know and understand the issues you face and really care about finding solutions.

Vocal

The role of a councillor is to serve and represent everyone in the ward that they are elected to. That means standing up for residents to ensure that their voices and concerns are heard. From planning decisions to local services, our councillors stand up for their residents to make sure they are taken into account. It’s not always possible to find a solution that pleases everyone but it is possible to make sure that concerns are recognised and acknowledged, and that residents can understand why a decision is made.

Visible

We believe that residents have a right to know what their council are doing and our councillors play an important part in that. That’s why we work hard to create opportunities for residents to meet their councillors, to hear from them about what’s happening, and to get involved in council decisions.

Standing up for our residents as independent councillors

We do this in a number of ways including:

  • Newsletters emails. We send out regular emails to our members and also a general newsletter to anyone subscribed to our mailing list. These newsletters explain what we have been done doing and how we are working hard for Broxtowe residents. Want to hear from us? Sign up to become a member now!
  • Leaflets. Many of our councillors organise and fund leaflets for their areas to keep local residents updated on what’s happening, especially if they don’t have access to social media or emails.
  • Monthly drop-in surgeries. These regular events are organised and run by our councillors where anyone who lives in their area can pop in to ask questions or chat through problems. Details and timings for the different sessions below.
  • Regular Community Action Team (CAT) meetings. These are more formal meetings than our drop-in surgeries and usually take place between 2-4 times a year. Our councillors organise these events. The police, council officers and local organisations are also invited to attend to discuss things happening within their areas.
  • Social media. We also provide updates through Facebook, X, and other channels. Many of our councillors also have their own pages too (more details below). We also work with Broxtowe Borough Council to share updates on things too where there are things happening that residents need to know.
